We are on a mission to put taste, control, and attitude back into gliders. The PUNK is a modern day rebellion towards bland tasteless paragliders. This new age wing is an explosion of feel, controllability, and fun. It is a matter of respect. Controllable performance is what I call it. In the PUNK, I have added an extra level of control. Using our trademark “Bruce Goldsmith Handling” and “power steering” there is a kind of inner harmony in the glider that reacts better to the pilots’ inputs.

The Punk passes the certification tests very easily and even if you fly over weight the safety of the glider is not effected. Because of this we have been able to use extended weight ranges for the Punk certification, which means that even if you fly the glider over the top of the ideal weight range, you are still flying within certification.
Extended certified ranges are available on 4 sizes of Punk and are:
XS=50-70, S=60-95, M=75-100, ML=88-113.
Eyes Wide-Open Safety
Gliders that talk are safer. Safer gliders make pilots perform better. Better performing pilots fly further. Further flying pilots are happier pilots. Eyes Wide-open Safety produces happier pilots.
The PUNK is designed to warn experienced pilots of light-to-moderate turbulence, rather than suddenly completely collapsing when things get really unruly. Bruce’s article in Cross Country magazine, ‘Shifting Our Thinking on Safety’, explains how “A wing that is super stable and almost never collapses can lead to more accidents, because when it does collapse the pilot is not prepared and has little experience of how to deal with the situation”. Any wing will collapse given enough turbulence. A small deflation in medium turbulence is easier to deal with and therefore safer than a big collapse in strong turbulence.
Cord Cut Billow (CCB)
Cord Cut Billow technology has been developed to improve the form friction, glider stability and overall performance of our paragliders. Two seams run chord-wise across the top panels of the leading edge to accommodate the panel ballooning that happens when the wing is inflated. Up to five centimetres of excess material is created on the sides of an inflated flat panel bending over a wing profile. Cord Cut Billow technology absorbs the material with a 3D panel resulting in fewer ripples and improved rib profile shape and stability.
Using our cutting edge software we have maintained the strength and rigidity of the profiles while maximizing the amount of non-load bearing material we could remove. This reduces weight and without increasing the cost or reducing the strength of the wing as a whole. Hole positioning and size is highly dependent on the loads taken locally by the sail and this can only be done correctly with recent innovations in our software.
Post C Band
We have added a 'post C' band running along the top surface which seamlessly moves down to bottom surface at the tip connecting directly to the last line cascade. Instead of putting heavy plastic rods above the C lines we use this band to counter the common flip up ripple caused when adding a little brake. The problem with paragliders is when a little brake is applied the cupping of the trailing edge creates lift which often buckles the profile near the C’s. Using careful analysis during braking and it’s the interaction with our internal structure we have solved this problem with the “Post C Band” a eloquent, lightweight, clean, and volume reducing solution.
Optimized unsupported cell groups are designed to match the span wise load distribution influenced by the line layout. Coupled with a strong internal structure the line layouts that create more span wise tension can support more unsupported cells. While maintaining a homogenous wing this helps to minimize line consumption reducing drag thus improving performance.
Maximized Unsupported Cells
Optimizing the line layout of a glider is an extremely complex science; we are constantly developing our analytical techniques to improve line design. A wing’s internal structure evolves simultaneously with line layout, and together these design aspects offer better support for reduced line consumption and drag. The Lynx uses new Edelrid Magix pro 8000U lines and has a total line length of just 244m (M).
Strong Shark Nose
An ultra aggressive shark nose optimizes stability at all speeds. Not all sharks are created equal and BGD’s shark noses are very aggressive, maximizing the effects of the technology.
Snap Locks are lightweight compact attachments that effortlessly connect brakes to the risers with a small focused magnet inside the catch and an internal locking system that holds the handle in every direction except down toward the pilot. This unique design feature means the handles don’t fall off while kiting, packing, or performing manoeuvres. The Snap Lock system solves many of the problems associated with press-studs and magnets.
Optimized Line Layout
Over the years we have perfected our system of optimizing the line layout of our wings. We use numerous equations, software, and the plain old guess and check method to build our line layout. The result is simple: fewer lines making stronger, faster gliders.
